The Legend of Panama Geisha: A Star in the World of Specialty Coffee

In the world of specialty coffee, few names carry as much prestige and allure as Panama Geisha. Celebrated for its delicate floral aroma, vibrant acidity, and tea-like body, this varietal has become a symbol of excellence, sought after by roasters, baristas, and coffee lovers around the globe.

But what makes Panama Geisha so special?

A Journey from Ethiopia to the Highlands of Panama

Originally discovered in the 1930s in the village of Gesha, Ethiopia, the Geisha varietal made its way to Panama decades later. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that its true potential was revealed. At Hacienda La Esmeralda, located in the lush highlands of Boquete, Panama, the coffee was cultivated with care and precision — and the world took notice.

In 2004, Panama Geisha stunned the judges at the Best of Panama competition, setting a new benchmark for quality and sparking a global obsession.

Rarity, Craftsmanship, and Terroir

Panama Geisha is not your average coffee. It thrives only in specific microclimates and requires meticulous cultivation, harvesting, and processing. Grown at high altitudes, often above 1,800 meters, and nurtured in rich volcanic soil, each bean tells a story of dedication and origin.

Its rarity and complexity make it one of the most expensive coffees in the world — not just a beverage, but a tasting experience.

Our Signature Selection

At Red Field Coffee Roasters, we consider Panama Geisha our flagship offering, a celebration of purity, craftsmanship, and heritage. We source directly from small farms in the Boquete and Volcán regions, where generations of producers work with passion and precision.

Each batch is lightly roasted to preserve the varietal's distinct profile: notes of jasmine, bergamot, stone fruit, and a silky finish that lingers on the palate.

Experience the Extraordinary

Panama Geisha is more than coffee, it’s a journey. From the slopes of the Panamanian highlands to your cup, it represents the very best of what specialty coffee can be.

Try it once, and you'll understand why it's considered the crown jewel of the coffee world.
